Analysing players means following a person for a period, writing down every movement they make, and reaching a conclusion.
Juan Gafas, our shadow-scout, decided to focus on Matías Succar. He didn’t know that soon after writing, Succar would become a Peruvian national team player.
Matías Succar
Age: 21.
Club: Deportivo Municipal (Peru).
Position: Forward.
Nationality: Peruvian.
Market Value: 275.000 € (Transfermarkt).
Why follow him? Succar has scored nine league goals in the last six weeks. Making the switch from a talented player who might "make it" in the future, to a real attacking threat and goal-scoring machine.
Succar is a forward with good size and strength for Peruvian football. He uses these characteristics well to beat defenders in physical duels and when battling in the air. It is not just his size, as it is the know-how and determination when using his body to get in position ahead of the defender - not very common with young players. He has a soft touch when controlling or laying-off the ball and these physical and technical attributes make him a good outlet for long and high balls upfield.
His movement and anticipation inside the box are good, his determination to beat the defender to the ball will earn him a few attempts on goal other strikers won't get. There’s more to him than fighting for the ball and scoring, as he can dribble with good enough enough pace to get away from defenders when having the space, and has a decent delivery from wide areas.
This is the breakthrough year for the young striker. A debut in the national team is around the corner now. Succar possesses the skill set of a complete forward. Apart from his technical and physical attributes, I really liked his attitude in the games in which I have watched him. I hope to see him move on to higher levels soon, and certainly, he is one to keep track of.
IMPORTANT COMMNET: Succar was called-up to the Peruvian national team after this article was written.
