The world is full of young football talents. They grow up in the streets of São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Abuja or Belgrade, and the world is literally at their feet, so to speak.
In our work and research in BabaGol, we discover many players that don’t get the focus or the chance to showcase their true potential.
Juan Gafas, our ‘shadow’ scout, with his weekly talent.
Juan Brunetta
Age: 22
Club: Godoy Cruz (Argentina)
Position: Attacking midfielder, Winger and Forward.
Nationality: Argentina
Market Value: 3.000.000 € (Transfermarkt)
Why follow him? He is a versatile attacking player, with very good technical skills and the ability to both score and assist. He revived his career after a short setback, showing strong character and the ability to overcome obstacles. Since his breakthrough a few years back, Brunetta’s performance was inconsistent. Despite his huge potential, he failed to take his game to the next level and show his true abilities. This season however, he is the silver lining in an awful Godoy Cruz squad. Brunetta is creating chances, scoring goals and rebuilding his name as a promising talent. His good form earned him a place in the Pre-Olympic U23, replacing injured Fernando Valenzuela. It was there that he was discovered as a man of many talents; not only can he orchestrate his team’s offensive side - he can also play the piano.
Brunetta is a versatile attacker, but I think he’s best when playing out wide on the left, cutting inside where he can take a shot (his signature move). If he won’t go for the net, he can deliver a trickery ball into the box.
Brunetta is lethal in a more central role as well, and he isn't the player you want to find right in between your lines. It's unlikely he will stay in Mendoza for another season, and it will be interesting to follow him at his next club. The more likely options are a local club in the calibre of River Plate or even abroad. I think he is ready, and this is the right time for him to make this move.
