Despite being one of the only active competitions during the coronavirus era, fans in Taiwan were not satisfied with how the Chinese Taipei FA has marketed the Taiwan Premier League.
One complaint that stood out was the scheduling of all four games at the same time and broadcasting only one out of four, even though the league successfully drew worldwide attention in round one.
Before the second matchday, the CTFA has fixed their broadcasting policy, from covering one game per round to include all matches and introducing English commentary for one of the games. It is the first time in history that the TFPL provides English commentary for fans, which added an innovative taste to today’s games.
Hang Yuen vs Taichung FUTURO
Taichung FUTURO travelled to Fu Jen University Football Field for their first away game of the season against Hang Yuen, and both teams showed very entertaining 90-minute battle.
The Japanese-owned FUTURO fired up first. In the 12th minute, 27-year-old Taiwanese international Li Mao connected Chen Chi-Wei's cross to a left-footed half volley at the first touch and Huang Chiu-lin, Hang Yuen’s goalkeeper, couldn’t get his hands. FUTURO hit the net again with Joo Ik-Seong's free kick in the 25th minute, but it went into the side-netting.
Hang Yuen levelled the game back in the 66th minute with a little bit of luck. Wu Yen-Shu, the talented 20-year-old midfielder, attempted to shoot at a penalty arc. It should’ve been easy save for FUTURO’s goalie, Tuan Yu, but he fumbled it, and the ball went over the line. Wu Yen-Shu could’ve given his team a second victory of the season by his free-kick right before the final whistle, but unfortunately, it struck the crossbar. The final score was 1-1.
