Coronavirus Times: Good Evening Minsk

Another weekend with COVID-19 setting the pace and Belarus Premier League is still rolling in full swing.

Friday saw two matches from the sixth matchday of the only active league in Europe - Smolevichi vs Dinamo Minsk and Neman Grodno vs Energetik BGU.

With the South Korean K League announcing its return to action on May 8, the Belarus Premier League understood its two months of fame might soon come to an end.

SMOLEVICHI VS DINAMO MINSK 1-3

Smolevichi is one of the weakest teams in the league, and their clash with Dinamo Minsk was an exact reflection of the team’s abilities and ranking in the table. Dinamo Minsk, the traditional club of Belarus, didn’t wait too long before they started bombarding the hosts with their significantly better squad.
Ivan Bakhar netted after seven minutes, Evgeni Shikavka doubled from a spot-kick half an hour later and added another goal on the 69th minute to make it a complete 0-3 in favour of the visitors from the capital. An own goal by the Slovenian Miha Goropevšek took one goal back. Still, nothing could sweeten the bitter game for Smolevichi. Their relegation already seems definitive, although we are only six games into the season.

NEMAN GRODNO VS ENERGETIK-BGU 3-0

Oh, Energetik, Energetik, the most refreshing club in Belarus is starting to lose its energy.
What started with a great victory against BATE Borisov, and continued two more wins, is now a streak of three losses. The university club who threatened to go far after its impressive beginning for the season is now facing reality. Neman Grodno, a classic mid-table team, has much more depth in the squad; It was apparent on the field. The match itself was pretty calm until the hour mark, but then the locals began to attack, and after 16 minutes it was all over. Armenian midfielder Gegam Kadimyan scored the first on the 66th minute, Pavel Zabelin scored six minutes later and added another on the 82nd. Energetik was doomed, and so it for this match. 3-0 Neman on the final whistle.
