Matchday two of the Europa Conference League showed us that it’s the perfect stage to see the unexpected - here’s what happened.
Late goals make top teams fail
The teams from the top leagues are facing, once again, the realisation that the Conference League is not going to be an easy task.
Aston Villa were a few minutes away from another winless match, until John McGinn scored an added time winner against Zrinjski.
Last years’ finalists Fiorentina drew again, this time after coming back from 2-0 down against Ferencvaros with a 93rd minute Jonathan Ikone equaliser.
Eintracht Frankfurt were also among the disappointed teams in their away match against PAOK.
Andrija Zivkovic scored first for the Greek side, before Omar Marmoush equalised in the 68th minute.
In the 92nd minute, Konstantinos Koulierakis scored the winning goal for PAOK.

Lugano stun Besiktas with a crazy comeback
We are used to big surprises in the Conference League, but what happened today in Istanbul can be claimed to be one of the biggest upsets we’ve seen in the competition.
Besiktas went 2-0 up following a Vincent Aboubakar brace, and seemed to be in total control of the game.
But a silly second yellow card for Valentin Rosier on the hour mark left them a man down.
The real drama kicked off when the clock hit 80 minutes, as Ignacio Aliseda cut the score down to 2-1.
Five minutes later, Shkelqim Vladi equalised for the Swiss side.
And, inevitably, in the 90th minute, Anto Grgic’s wayward shot was turned into the net by Eric Bailly.
An own goal to make it 3-2 to Lugano, who now top the ‘group of death’ and get their first win in Europe since December 2017.

Dinamo Zagreb stumble against Ballkani
One of the more surprising teams of the 2022-23 edition of the competition is Ballkani from Kosovo, who have proven, once again, how tough it is for travelling teams at their home stadium.
A strong Dinamo Zagreb side came to town for a game, but couldn't produce on the pitch.
Almir Kryeziu made it 1-0 in the 44th minute, as VAR ruled him onside after an initial offside call.
Algerian Walid Hamidi then scored the second, after stealing the ball from Boko Sutalo and converting a one-on-one against Ivan Nevistic.

A historic Faroese point
Another place across the continent which can really celebrate tonight, is the small town of Klaksvik in the Faroe Islands.
In the first ever European group stage game played in the country, KI Klaksvik managed to hold French powerhouses Lille to a 0-0 draw, securing the nation’s first group stage point.
Although played in the capital Torshavn, in the national stadium, KI can mark yet another magical moment in their historic summer.

For a team from a small town of 5,024 people to hold Lille, who were the champions of France's Ligue 1 as recently as 2021, to a draw is simply a great achievement! pic.twitter.com/tlrUNYJySt
Norsjaelland is unstoppable
After they lost to Fenerbahce in the opening game, Nordsjaelland returned with a vengeance.
The Danes scored eight goals in the qualifiers, and have finally carried that form over to the group stage with another amazing performance against Ludogorets.
Nordsajelland shocked the Bulgarian champions early on, heading into the break with a 4-1 lead.
By the end of the game, it was 7-1, with six different goalscorers.
It’s the biggest ever win recorded by a team in the Europa Conference League, breaking Bodo Glimt’s record from their 6-1 against Roma two seasons ago.
