Emirati Clubs Dominate Qatar-UAE Super Cup Tournaments

The second edition of the Qatar-UAE Super Cup concluded last weekend, featuring four tournaments: the Challenge Shield, Super Cup, Super Shield, and Challenge Cup.

Each competition showcased intense matches between top clubs from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, with Emirati teams securing victories in all four events.

Challenge Shield

The Challenge Shield kicked off the series on January 16, 2025, at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha.

Shabab Al Ahli faced Al Rayyan and emerged victorious with a 3-1 win. The match highlighted Shabab Al Ahli's offensive prowess and set the tone for the subsequent tournaments.

Super Cup

The Super Cup took place on January 17, 2025, in Dubai, featuring a clash between Al Nasr and Qatar SC.

Al Nasr delivered a commanding performance, defeating Qatar SC with a 5-1 scoreline. This decisive victory underscored Al Nasr's dominance and added another trophy to their cabinet.

Super Shield

On January 18, 2025, the Super Shield match was held at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, where Al Wasl faced Al Sadd.

Nicolas Gimenez's goal in the 54th minute secured a 1-0 win for Al Wasl. Despite Al Sadd's efforts to equalize, including several close attempts, Al Wasl's defense held firm, and the team clinched the Super Shield title.

Challenge Cup

The final tournament, the Challenge Cup, was contested on January 19, 2025, at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi between Al Wahda and Al Wakrah. Aissa Laidouni opened the scoring for Al Wakrah in the 26th minute, but Al Wahda's Omar Kharbin equalized in the 62nd minute.

The match proceeded to penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Al Wahda triumphed 5-4 in the shootout, with Al Wakrah missing two crucial penalties, allowing the home side to lift the Challenge Cup.
