Ghana has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship, with the Continental Finals set to take place from April 21-26 at the Legon Sports Stadium in Accra.
This marks the first time the tournament’s final stage will be held in West Africa, following previous editions in South Africa (2023) and Tanzania (2024).
Launched in 2022 by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the championship has grown into Africa’s largest youth football initiative, with over 1.9 million participants from 46 countries. Backed by a $10 million donation from the Motsepe Foundation, the competition also funds legacy projects such as school renovations, infrastructure development, and community programs.
The 2025 finals will feature teams from CAF’s six zones, along with defending champions and host nation Ghana. Prize money includes $300,000 for the winners, $200,000 for runners-up, and $150,000 for third place.
CAF has also expanded its capacity-building programs, offering training in coaching, refereeing, medical support, and media reporting alongside the tournament. CAF Director Sarah Mukuna emphasized the competition’s role in developing young talent and expressed excitement about the partnership with CANAL+, which aims to elevate the championship’s visibility.
The Legon Sports Stadium, a 10,000-seater venue built for the 2023 African Games, will host the matches, providing top-tier facilities for players and support programs alike.
