Neymar Leaves Al Hilal; Soon at Santos

Neymar Jr. is heading back to Santos FC, 12 years after leaving for Europe, following the termination of his massive $200 million contract with Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal.

The 32-year-old Brazilian star struggled with injuries during his short stint in the Saudi Pro League, managing just seven appearances and one goal before both parties agreed to part ways.

His Al Hilal move, which cost the club €80 million in transfer fees and included one of the most lucrative contracts in football history, ultimately did not go as planned. With Neymar sidelined for much of his time in Saudi Arabia, Al Hilal opted to cut ties, paving the way for his emotional return home.

Neymar has participated in seven games in a year and a half at Al Hilal, scoring one goal.

Santos president Marcelo Teixeira confirmed the signing, calling it a “historic moment” for the club and its fans. Neymar himself expressed his excitement, saying, “Returning to Santos is a dream come true. I want to give back to the club that made me who I am.”

While the financial details of his Santos deal remain undisclosed, the focus is now on Neymar rediscovering his form as he eyes a comeback with the Brazilian national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
