FIFA Unveils $1B Prize for Club World Cup, Women’s Expansion

FIFA has announced a groundbreaking $1 billion prize money pot for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, setting a new standard for global club competitions.

The decision, revealed at the latest FIFA Council meeting, underscores the organization’s commitment to reinvesting in football development worldwide.

The revamped Club World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States, is expected to generate $2 billion in revenue. FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized that all proceeds will be distributed to participating clubs and global football development initiatives. “This will be the pinnacle of club football and a demonstration of solidarity on an unprecedented scale,” Infantino stated.

New Women Football competitions

Additionally, FIFA unveiled major plans for women’s football, including the launch of the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in 2028 and the annual FIFA Women’s Champions Cup starting in 2026. The Women’s Club World Cup will feature 16 teams in a competitive format, while the Champions Cup will see confederation winners compete for a global title.

The FIFA Council also approved bidding processes for the 2031 and 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cups. The 2031 edition will be open to bids from CAF (Africa) and Concacaf (North America), while the 2035 edition will be contested by CAF and UEFA (Europe) nations.

Other key decisions included scheduling for the FIFA Arab Cup, U-17 and U-20 Women’s World Cups, and updates to the Women’s International Match Calendar, reinforcing FIFA’s strategic investment in global football.
